Following a seasoned sculptor's suggestion, a black backdrop and dramatic lighting were used photographing this piece. I think the whole atmosphere successfully brought out the feeling I tried to convey. I feel like cheating, though, as the photos look better than the actual piece. I intend to learn more about this kind of photo shooting techniques. It'll be interesting....

May this image generate warmth within! We need that, especially when it's bitter cold outside.
This piece was modeled after a friend who was, in my view, like the sacred mountain where monarch butterflies gather from all over the North American Continent. When I mentioned this to her, she did not see herself in it. People around her could easily perceive her delightful qualities, but her heart was too humble to acknowledge it. This piece is to celebrate the genuine beauty like hers, and I believe we all could attain it. Even if we age and loose our outer attractiveness, it will continue to shine. I strive to become like her. Because of the frigid weather, the holidays, and jet lag, I procrastinated longer than I had anticipated. Finally I'm happily back in production.
LOCKED BOY portrays a gray-haired man who was abused by his father as a child. He still cannot overcome the bitterness he experienced. He himself mistreated his own children when they were small, and it is his haunting regret. The boy whose heart was shattered by his father is still locked deep within. Could he let him go? The white dove which represents peace awaits to enter his heart in place of the locked boy. Hope you all are staying warm! |
