It's been weeks since I sculpted. I've decided to get back into it by making something easy. With this new series, I'm challenging myself with various expressions, while keeping the figurines simple. I'm going to experiment with different clays and a new firing technique, too. I'm happy to be back in creations.
"Daruma" often refers to a round paper-mache doll, which was modeled after the founder of Zen tradition. You will not miss noticing "Jizo" stone statues on the roadside of Japan. The deities are believed to protect children and travelers. I'm thinking of calling my new clay figurines "drama jizo." Its round shape reminds me of "drama." I want it to be a spirit that shares a certain emotion with you and consoles you when needed. Maybe, I'm stretching too much. Coming up with a catching name is not easy.
