I made a pedestal for this piece. In order to make the sculpture meaningful, I calligraphed a buddhist teaching on the box. Does the calligraphy bother you? What do you think of its location and size?
The translation of the calligraphy is "There is only one moon in the above, but it is reflected on every surface of water." The moon represents the Buddha, and his reflection is within every one of us. In other words, each human being carries the Buddha-Nature. This sculpture with the pedestal will be displayed in Emerson Center for Arts and Culture in Bozeman, MT. The Figures & Portrait Show will be on from June 10 to August 7, 2020.
