When I asked the 65-year-old model to think of something very sad, she began to bawl, repeating to herself, "I'm no good." She had just crossed the US continent to see a man, whom she had long adored. He, however, had shown no interest in her. Detrimental to her ego, her love had flirted with a young woman in her presence. "I'm so damn stupid," she repeated with tears pouring out.
The man failed to see her true beauty adorned in her extraordinary generosity and resilience. It was his loss, not hers. We, her close friends, knew that, but with her heart shattered, she could not see it. She has bounced back since then. She is taking out her savings in order to go to a mission in Ethiopia. An item on her bucket list will soon be checked out.
